How current does the proof of eligibility need to be for me or my child to qualify?

Answer:

The Learning Ally Audiobook Solution is a proven accommodation reserved for people with reading-based learning differences like dyslexia. Eligibility for the Learning Ally Audiobook Solution can be determined by a professional who has experience identifying whether an individual exhibits a specific skill deficit, disability or condition. Qualified Educators can determine eligibility through assessments, observations and review of student work. Individuals do not need an IEP or 504 in order to qualify. There is no expiration date on qualification once provided by a professional.

Learning Ally is able to offer our human-read audio textbooks and literature titles under a special provision of the U.S. Copyright law (17 U.S.C. § 121, et seq., Marrakesh exemption). To be eligible to receive our solution under this special provision, a person’s reading or perceptual deficit or disability needs to be determined by a Qualified Educator or Qualified Evaluator with experience making such determinations.

As a College Success member, what proof of eligibility is required and how do I submit that information?

Answer:

Learning Ally serves students and adults with an eligible print disability. The use of our audiobooks is restricted to those who have a demonstrated reading deficit, visual impairment, or physical disability that makes it difficult to read using traditional print. For legal reasons, we require documentation from a qualified professional for each member. Click here to learn more about print disabilities

We do not require that you send the full evaluation/assessment with detailed pesonal information. We will only need you to provide the following information:

  • Evaluator’s contact information
  • Diagnosing evaluator’s signature; and
  • A page that summarizes/defines the disability tpe

2. A completed copy of the qualification of eligibility:

You may take this to a qualified professional of your choice for signature, or forward to them by email.

3. Confirmation of membership with Bookshare or your state’s NLS Library:

If you have already provided your verification of eligibility to Bookshare or your state’s NLS Library, we can ask that organization to verify membership for you. You can provide us with your membership information during the online registration process, and we’ll do the rest!

In order to submit this information please use one of the options below:

Provide proof of eligibility online via your account.

  1. Log in to www.LearningAlly.org

As an educator, how do I determine eligibility for a student to use the Learning Ally Audiobook Solution, and why is this required?

Answer:

The Learning Ally Audiobook Solution is a proven multi-sensory reading accommodation for students who fall into one of the following three categories:

1. READING DEFICIT A reading deficit is determined by a student’s need for a reading accommodation due to an impairment in decoding, fluency and/or comprehension that does not allow a student to keep up with content at the same level as students without an impairment. An IEP or 504 is not required.

2. BLIND OR VISUALLY IMPAIRED Persons who are blind whose visual acuity is 20/200 or less in the better eye with correcting glasses, or whose wide diameter of visual field subtends an angular distance no greater than 20 degrees. A person with a visual impairment has a visual deficit with correction that prevents or inhibits him/her from reading standard printed material.

3. OTHER PHYSICAL DISABILITY Students who have a physical impairment that prevents them from reading standard print, such as those who are unable to hold a book, turn the pages of a book, etc. Students with Cerebral Palsy, Multiple Sclerosis, or Muscular Dystrophy are examples of individuals who may qualify under this category

Eligibility for the Learning Ally Audiobook Solution can be provided by an educator or other professional who has experience determining whether a student has a reading deficit, blindness, a visual impairment, or a physical disability. In order to make this determination, educators (or other professionals) can use any combination of the following: Classroom observation, student work, informal and formal assessments

contact Customer Care online with the student’s information to get them access again.
When a password field is blank, it means the student’s account is locked due to more than 6 incorrect login attempts.
